Look Up SRV Service Records
Find which server and port handle a particular service.
How to use it
- Enter the full name with underscores, like _sip._tls.example.com.
- Press Check.
- Review the target, port, priority and weight.
An SRV record binds a specific service to a server and port rather than applying to the whole domain. The name uses a special form beginning with underscores, such as _sip._tls.example.com, or _autodiscover._tcp.example.com used by Microsoft 365.
This means you must type the full name including the underscores, or nothing will come back. The most common practical uses are Microsoft 365 setup, chat services and voice over IP.
Frequently asked questions
Usually because the name isn't in its full form. SRV records don't exist on a bare domain — they live on a name like _service._protocol.domain.
Priority decides which group is tried first, lowest first. Weight distributes load between servers sharing a priority — a higher weight takes a larger share.
Most commonly Microsoft 365 setup, SIP voice services, and some game and chat servers that advertise their ports through DNS.
