Sort Lines of Text

Correct alphabetical order for Arabic and English, and true numeric order for numbers.

How to use it

  1. Paste your list into the top field, one item per line.
  2. Choose a sort method and direction.
  3. Copy the sorted list.

Alphabetical order in Arabic isn't a simple comparison of character codes. The naive sort most tools use puts hamza forms and alef maqsura in unexpected places and scrambles names. This tool uses proper Arabic language collation, so you get the ordering you actually expect.

Numeric ordering is the other common trap: a text sort puts 10 before 2 because it compares character by character. Choose numeric sorting and the values are compared as real numbers, so 2 comes before 10 as it should.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. We use the browser's standard Arabic collation rules, so hamza and alef variants sort the way they're expected to in Arabic lists and indexes.

Text sorting compares character by character, putting 10 before 2. Numeric sorting reads the values as numbers, putting 2 before 10. Use numeric for any list of figures, prices or dates.

Yes, though the Arabic lines will group together and the English ones separately, because ordering follows each alphabet's own rules.
